What causes depression and its symptoms?

Depression have been with man ever since the commencement of recorded history. David as well as Job suffered from this distress in the Bible. Depression was referred to as melancholia which means black bile by Hippocrates.
Depression which is also clinical depression was in the 19th century understood as inherited weakness of temperament. Freud in the 1st half of twentieth century connected the development of depression to guilt and conflict.
Depression was divided into two types in the mid part of the 20th century: endogenous and neurotic. Endogenous refers to depression that comes from within the body which may be of a genetic origin or unknown cause. Neurotic also called reactive depression originates from environmental hastening factors like loss of a relation or another related loss like loss of job.
A depressive disorder reflects a sad or irritable mood that exceeds grief or normal sadness. The sadness is characterized by greater intensity, time and more serious symptoms and functional disabilities than is normal. Some people have an inherited vulnerability to depression such as people with dipolar depression.
Some kind of depressive disorders affects like 10% adults, 8% teens and 2% of preteen children. Some people especially teenagers who suffer from depressive disorders can be predisposed to obesity.

Depression can also lead to death from these medical conditions. Elderly depression can be chronic and the recovery is difficult to achieve. Elderly men have a high rate of committing suicide especially whites.

Some people may also feel major depression combined with dysthymia. This is normally referred to as double-depression.
