health hazards of junk foods


Foods to be taken with caution



These foods are synthetically processed and are poor in nutritional contents, though they  may look attractive and have good taste. They commonly called fast foods and include snacks of all types.  They contain high levels of saturated fats and trans fatty acids which can promote atherosclerosis and heart diseases. Some of them are in the form of cakes, cookies, hamburgers, chocolates, lollies, noodles, softdrinks, hotdogs, and other attractive looking products. These products have been known to have high contents of purified sugars and salts. Due to their high sugar content, they can promote tooth decay. This is because bacteria normally found in the mouth converts sugars into acids that attack dental enamel.
Sugared foods are important cause of obesity in children and adults. It is helpful that such people should have regular intake of bitter products such as bitterleaf which can remove excess cholesterol in their system through the bile.
High sugar consumption, especially in the absence of adequate vitamin intake can lower the immunity of the body, this makes the person prone to all kinds of infections.
High levels of fats and sugar diets depletes the calcium reserves in the body. This causes the bone to become brittle, weak and can easily fracture.
Due to their salt contents, junk food can bring rise in one’s blood pressure(hypertension).
As they increases the free radical (toxins) content of the body, junk foods can make one develop any kind of disease including cancers of any form.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
·         Try as much as possible to avoid junk foods especially if you are already an adult or overweight or with any heart problem.
·         Avoid soft drinks, they are often high in sugar and low in nutrients. Try supply the body with enough fruits and vegetables especially when one has taken  too much junk foods.
·         Take note of the ingredients from the product label of any junk food in order to ensure that it is healthy.
