People with phobia develop so much fear that they find it difficult to do their normal activities. They feel stressed and worried about being close to the object or engaging in the situation. They avoid the feared objects or situation so as not to feel stressed worried. Types of phobia include:
Animal phobias. Such as being afraid of cats, dogs or spiders.

Causes.
If you have a family member that have phobia, there is a greater chance that you will have it.
An unforgettable ordeal can make some to have a phobia. For instance, someone bitten by dog before may develop phobia of dogs or any look alike. I was not afraid of cow before until the day a cow pursued me. Since after that ordeal I don’t cross path with cows. When someone witness something bad happen to another person before can make one have phobia. For instance when one witness a person fall of a building. Since I learnt about plane crashes, I started having phobia of flying. Women have phobias at younger age than men.
Treatment
Treatment of phobia can be done through cognitive-behavioral therapy.  This involves imagining or getting close to the object situation being feared. For instance, if you having a phobia of heights; you should first envision yourself in a lofty place, such 10th floor of a balcony. Doing exercise can assist you in relaxing your worry and your fear about heights will lessen. Next, you would go onto a balcony on a lower floor, try the exercise again to help you relax. Finally, you can now go onto the 10th floor without being afraid.

You doctor may prescribe medicine for you, but medication works best with this cognitive-behavioral therapy. Beta-blockers (such as atenolol or propranolol) can treat physical symptoms of phobia such as faster heartbeat and also blood-injection-injury phobias. They can also be used in treating anxiety disorders like fear of speaking in front of a crowd. People often neglect treatment for anxiety disorders, thinking that they can work it out on their own. But the truth is that you need the treatment.
